A UK prepping site researching, discussing and planning for the world this may become when the lights go out, chaos reigns.... and the fires burn.

Category EDC

EDC or Every-Day-Carry is the general term given to the gear and equipment we carry at least on a regular, if not a literal, every day basis. For most people, even those who have never heard of EDC, this would be a wallet and keys.  Some people might add a torch to what they carry or a knife or multitool or both.  Like all things prepping, your every-day-carry is just that, yours.  It contains items that you need or find useful and as such, someone else’s wouldn’t fit your needs.

As with bug-out-bags and other prepping activities, the EDC category here on When The Fires Burn is specific to uk prepping, so you won’t find talk of every-day-carrying a semi-automatic pistol or a 7″ Bowie knife because we can’t! (although that may be included in linked articles and videos with other relevant content)

Check Your Batteries: A Charge Is Not Always Enough!

Check your batteries everyone…. I mean it, check you batteries.  I have just had an issue with my default ‘backdoor’ torch, a Nitecore EC4SW. The torch is a nice, well made model with 2150 lumens of output from a pair… Continue Reading →

The Enlan EL-01 Folding Knife & Adjusting it Using a Drill Chuck

I recently bought an Enlan EL-01 folding knife.  Its only a budget Chinese folding knife but the build quality, handling and specification are impressive for such a low price (£12.00 with free worldwide delivery from Gearbest).  It’s a big locking… Continue Reading →

My EDC (v2)

The first attempt at my EDC kit was developed when I first started prepping and I was developing a feel for the equipment I wanted to hand on a daily basis as an every day carry.  It worked to a… Continue Reading →

Handy EDC Item: Nitecore Tube USB Rechargable Torch

I have been looking for a small keyring torch to go on my car/house keys.  I’ve tried the cheap and cheerful ‘squeeze’ type ones powered by a small coin battery but they are only usable to a very limited brightness… Continue Reading →

Small Car Preps Kit

I wanted to put a basic preps kit in my wife’s car, which being only small (a Citroen DS3) doesn’t have a great usable boot space to begin with without leaving a holdall or rucksack in there permanently.  That combined… Continue Reading →

Handy Item: CK Magma Pouches With Carabiners

I spotted this (Amazon) set of three pouches from the tool storage range from CK Magma and ordered two sets.  They are very well made with excellent materials and stitching and the three sizes are very handy.  They all have… Continue Reading →

Handy Item: AAA to AA Battery Converters

I recently stocked up on some of these handy battery converters for using AAA batteries in place of AA batteries.  They will be great for torches, radios, etc when I only have AAA batteries to hand. I probably went overboard… Continue Reading →

My Tech EDC

As part of the equipment I carry every day, I have an EDC pouch which I tend to keep physically with me or at least have it nearby and I have a Get home Bag (GHB) which stays in the… Continue Reading →

Handy EDC Item: Sewing Kit

As part of my EDC kit I was looking for a basic and compact sewing kit for those times when a button needs fixing back on or a minor repair is needed.  After doing some searches I found this Micro/Mini… Continue Reading →

My EDC (v1)

When I started prepping, I hadn’t really thought of the concept of and ‘Every Day Carry’ or EDC pack.  We all have items and tools we use on a regular basis, maybe not even every day, and when we want… Continue Reading →
