Blog Navigation Tweaks

Growth is good, but……

As the When the Fires Burn blog has grown and more material has been posted, the standard front page has become less versatile.  The ‘older’ and ‘newer’ navigation links at the bottom of each page can mean cycling through quite a few pages.  Visitors will always see the latest posts on the front page when they arrive at the site, but finding articles or posts they might be interested in involves a search which is not ideal for site navigation.

There has always been a list of categories at the bottom of the page which link to the posts in each category.    There is also a tag cloud there as well linking to related articles.  However it is not ideal for visitors to have to scroll to the bottom of the site to find useful navigation links.  As well as those footer links, I had also provided links to quotes and videos on the main menu at the top of the site.  That still left the rest of the post categories unaccounted for.

I thought about adding a traditional sidebar for site navigation to the right or left hand side but it has too much impact on the look, feel and flow of the site.

Instead, I have added a main menu drop-down for the post categories. If you are looking for a particular subject, you can go straight to anything I have posted to the blog which might be relevant to your interests.

Do you have any problems navigating When The Fires Burn?  It’s still young a young blog so I would be interested to hear any improvements you might like.
